Reno sighed loudly and flopped down into his chair. Of course it would be different if he were out somewhere, doing *something*. But no. He was sitting at a desk doing nothing but going mad from the wicked aching press of sexual frustration.
It was Rude's fault. Of course, it was Elena's fault that it was Rude's fault, and it was Tseng's fault that Reno even noticed someone was at fault.
"Don't say anything."
Reno didn't. But he really, really wanted to, because it wasn't every day his partner and best friend broke into his home and walked in on him in the shower.
"I mean it-- I'm hiding out."
Through the fogged glass partition, he could see Rude undressing. He hung his suit on the hanger Reno never used, then stepped into the shower with him.
"Not that I'm saying anything, but... is this situation, aa, kind of awkward?"
"They might come here when they don't find me. Still... No one will look in your shower." Rude was pressed against the opposite side of the little cubicle, politely averting his gaze.
"You broke in and joined me in the *shower*, and the people chasing you aren't even trying to kill you?"
"Worse. There's some kind of wager. It involves making my life miserable. This was the one place nobody would look."
"But I'm in here!"
"Relax. Is this your shampoo? It's a little girly."
"It's not girly." Reno huffed.
"How much did it cost? Expensive shampoo is always girly." Rude sniffed at it. "Strawberry? Girly."
"It keeps my hair looking vibrant and shiny. Yo, when you got it, flaunt it. Not that you'd know anything about that. Baldy."
"I'm not bald, I shave my head. Don't be a brat."
"YOU BROKE INTO MY SHOWER!"
"You use conditioner?"
"Vibrant and shiny. My hair is a thing of beauty and a joy forever, and I keep it nice because it happens to be incredibly sexy. Shut up and give me my conditioner."
Rude shrugged and handed it over.
Reno was rinsing the conditioner out of his hair when Rude spoke again.
"Are you going to be in here much longer? Because if you are, I think we need to come to an agreement."
"Uh, *yeah*, it's MY SHOWER! And I'm still on my hair, I haven't even washed up yet!"
"Okay. Look, this space is kind of tight, and it's hot-- I mean, we're in close quarters, with a lot of steam heat, and of course we're both naked--"
"Why are *you* naked?"
"I can't hide in a running shower in my clothes."
"Fair enough." Reno sighed. He noticed, however, that the sunglasses were still in place.
"Anyway, some things are just natural, and I think... if-- for either of us-- something *happens*, the polite thing to do would be to pretend it just didn't. Because those things don't always have to mean anything, sometimes it just--"
"We'd pretend it doesn't?" Reno lifted an eyebrow.
"I'm very committed to hiding from them." Rude said. "You would be too, if it happened to you."
Reno shuddered. It had once, and he still remembered the trauma Elena had inflicted.
That would have been bad enough, Reno reflected. Just being stuck next to a warm, wet, naked body did things to a man, after all, and you can't jerk off in a shower you're sharing with someone. Especially when you're both pretending not to be aroused.
Yes, that would have been enough to make the rest of the day awkward, to add that unwanted frisson of sexual energy.
But of course, things got worse.
He sighed, resting his forehead against the cool tile wall. It was Break Into Reno's Day! If you're a friend of Reno's, break into his place! Moreover, he could feel Rude tense up.
"Just be quiet-- I won't tell her you're in here. Seriously. I will never tell *anyone* you were in here." He sighed. "I'M IN THE SHOWER!"
Elena opened the door.
"HEY!" Reno shouted, jumping slightly. "DON'T DO THAT!"
"I won't look." She said, speaking over the water. She stayed on the other side of the open doorway. "I just need to be able to talk to you!"
"NO PEEKING! I'LL GET YOU FOR IT IF YOU DO!"
"What's the matter, Reno? Is it small?"
"SHUT UP, THAT'S NOT WHY! AND IT'S HUGE, THANKYOUVERYMUCH!"
"Have you seen Rude?"
"ELENA, I'M IN THE SHOWER! I JUST GOT UP--"
"WHATEVER, I JUST GOT UP, AND I'M IN THE SHOWER! WHEN, EXACTLY, WOULD I HAVE SEEN RUDE? WHAT, YOU THINK HE'S IN HERE WITH ME? Ow! What was that for?"
"I'm sorry I asked!" She sighed loudly. "Look, Re-- Wait, *do* you have someone in there?"
"Uh..." He shot a panicked look over to Rude, who's expression made Reno's panicked look seem serene in comparison.
"*That's* why you're so freaked out about me coming in!"
"YOU CAN'T COME IN 'CAUSE IT'S MY SHOWER! Why does no one *understand* that?"
"Who is she? Do I know her?"
"THERE'S NO 'SHE', NOW GO AWAY!"
"Crap! That means I owe Tseng money."
"If you have a guy in there, then I owe Tseng money." She explained, her voice infuriatingly calm.
Reno felt something in his brain explode.
"I'M IN THE SHOWER!" He screamed. "*ALONE*! AND-- AND YOU CAN TELL TSENG I'M NOT LOOKING FOR SOME BIG MUSCLEBOUND DADDY TO STRAP ME TO THE HEADBOARDS OR NOTHING!"
"Wow, Reno, I didn't say anything that specific... are you *sure* I don't owe Tseng money?"
"OUT, OUT, GET OUT!"
"Fine. See you later. And if you run into Rude before I do, let him know I'm looking for him?"
He turned the water down and listened as she left, then, with a sigh, he faced Rude, hoping their agreement would hold.
"Okay. I'm going to get out of my shower. I'm going to towel off, get dressed, and make sure Elena and Tseng are far away from my bathroom. Give me five minutes before you get out and get dressed, by then the coast should be clear. Uh, but before I get out, I'm going to turn the water to cold for a sec..."
"Good idea." Rude nodded, and not like Reno was looking, but he noticed the agreement would be mutually beneficial.
Which left him sexually frustrated, and on top of that, aware of some things he'd been carefully repressing.
Reno wasn't the kind of person who had a lot of shame-- he didn't think he had anything to be ashamed *of*. Sure, sometimes he did bad things, but it was *survival*. If he wasn't with the Turks, where would he be? Where could he go? And there were worse things and worse people, he knew that. Besides, it wasn't just *his* survival, he had a partner to watch out for.
Oh, crap in a hat, he had a partner, a very big, very musclebound partner, and now all he could think about was that strapping-to-the-headboard thing, or better yet, shower sex. That's where they'd been when he first had to face facts... improbable, but hey.
Reno sighed and banged his head on the desk a couple times. It would be one thing if he liked boys, skinny and pretty, looking like girls... it would be one thing if he wanted to do them. But it was another thing altogether-- not just wanting Rude, wanting to be pressed up against that tile wall and pounded hard and held down and--
Reno loved him. He hadn't known he even believed in love, except there wasn't another word for what he felt about Rude.
At least he could be thankful for Shinra now... not only did it introduce them, for he couldn't do without the man now, but it was the kind of job where no one expected you to marry and have a family. If he was expected to settle down with a family, these feelings would be disgraceful... They weren't right, maybe, but they weren't *wrong* this way.
To be continued...
